AI visual inspection tools: damage, shelves and hygiene from photos

AI visual inspection tools detect product and vehicle damage, shelf gaps, food quality, venue cleanliness and return mismatches from a single photo, for free.

The BranchVoice team5 min read

A multi-store retail chain handles hundreds of photos every day: a parcel that supposedly arrived damaged, a shelf an area manager snapped during a visit, a plate attached to a complaint, an item that came back to the returns warehouse. AI visual inspection lets you assess those photos against the same criteria in seconds instead of eyeballing each one. This post walks through BranchVoice's free visual inspection tools, what each one returns and how operations teams can put them to work.

How the visual inspection tools work

The tools sit in the "Visual inspection" category of the AI tools page. They are free and need no sign-up; to prevent abuse the number of tries is limited, and very frequent use triggers a short wait.

The flow is the same for every tool. You drag and drop or pick a photo, the AI first checks that the photo actually shows a subject the tool is meant for, and then it calculates a probability for each signal in the tool's label set. Many tools also mark the problem area on the photo and add a summary value such as severity or an overall level. You can rename, delete or add labels to fit your own scenario.

Nine tools, nine questions

ToolWhat it looks for in the photo
Product Damage DetectorCrushed box, torn packaging, broken or cracked, scratched or dented, stained or wet, missing parts
Logo DetectionWhether your brand's logo appears, how prominent it is, and whether it is on a product, sign, vehicle or clothing
Shelf AuditOut-of-stock gaps, messy facings, missing price tags, misplaced products, damaged packaging, promo material
Food Presentation CheckForeign objects, raw or burnt food, careless plating, small portions, freshness; how appetising it looks
Vehicle Damage DetectionDents, scratches, broken glass, broken lights, bumper and wheel damage; severity
Venue Cleanliness CheckDirty floors, overflowing bins, clutter, stained surfaces, slippery floors, signs of pests; overall cleanliness
Fire and Smoke DetectionOpen flames, heavy smoke; building, vehicle or vegetation fire, people at risk
Return vs Listing MatchDifferent brand, model or colour, used or worn, missing parts, signs of a fake
Vehicle Make and Model RecognitionBody type, make, model and colour; commercial livery, electric, modified, visible damage, plate visibility

Logo Detection needs you to type the brand you are looking for along with the photo. Return vs Listing Match works with two photos: the listing image and a photo of the item you received. It says whether they are the same product, how closely they match and where the difference is, and it ignores differences in angle, lighting and background. Fire and Smoke Detection does not count fire that is meant to be there, such as candles, fireplaces or barbecues. Vehicle Make and Model Recognition focuses on the models most common in Turkey and answers "another model" for the rest.

Where it fits in store operations

The most direct use is field auditing. When an area manager runs visit photos through Shelf Audit, every branch is judged by the same yardstick: are there gaps, how full and tidy is the shelf, is the campaign material in place?

Venue Cleanliness Check applies the same idea to hygiene. Start- and end-of-shift photos let you track one standard across all branches, and safety-relevant signals such as slippery floors or signs of pests stand out on their own. For restaurant and café chains, Food Presentation Check uses pre-service plate photos to surface plating differences between branches.

Fire and Smoke Detection can act as a first filter on warehouse, car park or construction site photos; the danger level and the marked source tell the responsible team what to check first.

Returns, damage claims and fraud

For customer service and e-commerce teams, the most valuable tools are on the damage and returns side. When the photo in an "it arrived damaged" claim goes through the Product Damage Detector, you see the damage type, its severity and where it is; clear cases are resolved quickly and unclear ones go to review.

Return vs Listing Match goes a step further. By comparing a photo of the returned item with the listing image, you can catch a different model, a different colour, a used item or signs of a fake before the refund is approved. For brands selling on marketplaces, it also means "I got the wrong item" complaints can be judged the same way. We cover how marketplace reviews are tracked in marketplace review tracking.

In rental, fleet and insurance workflows, Vehicle Damage Detection shows damage and severity in check-out and return photos, while Vehicle Make and Model Recognition helps confirm that the car in a photo matches the one on the listing or the claim.

Visual brand listening with Logo Detection

Customers do not always name your brand; sometimes they just post a photo. Logo Detection tells you whether your logo appears in a photo, how prominent it is and where it sits. Use it to measure logo visibility in photos from sponsored events, or to check how your signage and vehicle livery come across in pictures. For the text side of brand monitoring, see social media account tracking.

How AI works inside the BranchVoice platform

The free visual tools are for trying out individual photos. The BranchVoice platform itself collects reviews every day from Google Maps, complaint sites, social media, app stores and marketplaces, and classifies the written content with AI: sentiment, topics, whether a reply is needed, and the questions in your analysis groups. The results feed alert rules, reports and dashboards. The logic behind that is explained in AI review classification, and the free text-based tools in AI sentiment and intent analysis tools.
